Build a Story Bank Before You Build Answers

6 July 2026 · 8 min read

Twelve stories will carry you through almost any interview loop. Here is how to select and shape them.

Stop rehearsing questions

Question lists are infinite; your material is not. Preparing answer-by-answer produces brittle, memorised responses. Preparing stories produces flexible ones you can aim at whatever is asked.

Choosing the twelve

Cover conflict, failure, leadership without authority, ambiguity, delivery under constraint, influencing upward, a data-led decision, a customer save, a process you built, a team you grew, an ethical call, and a proudest result.

Shaping each one

Write each story in STAR form, then cut it to ninety seconds spoken. Note the two or three competencies it can serve, and note the number that anchors it. In the room, you are selecting a story, not retrieving a script.

Want this applied to your own documents? Book a consult and we will work from your evidence, not a template.
