Why leadership bios fail in the first sentence, and the structure that keeps editors from cutting you.
The first sentence carries the bio
Most bios open with a job title and a company name, which an editor already has. Open instead with the domain you are credible in and the scale you operate at — that sentence is what gets lifted into a programme, a panel intro or an investor deck.
Three lengths, one voice
Write a 50-word version for speaker programmes, a 150-word version for websites and decks, and a 400-word version for board packs and award submissions. All three should compress the same claim, not tell different stories.
Ending well
Close on affiliation and a single human detail. Governance roles, fellowships and published work give the reader a reason to trust you; the human line gives them a reason to remember you.
